Frome Jazz Club is delighted to present a very special event to celebrate the coming of winter.
Erasmus, the great thinker of Renaissance times, wrote that the English "excel the whole world in the beauty of their women, their knowledge of music and the excellence of their table". To celebrate the fact that nothing has changed, on Thu 7 Dec at Frome Jazz Club we will be playing a selection of wintry renaissance melodies, re-arranged as jazz to bring out their timeless magic. We'll be playing the music of great composers such as Dowland and Purcell alongside magical seasonal songs whose origins are lost in medieval twilight.
And who better to lead the band than Knud Stuwe, a modern renaissance man with too many strings to his bow to list in full here - classical and jazz guitarist, oud player (the ancestor of the lute), folk musician, composer, choirmaster, and more. Joining Knud in this gig to remember will be Dave Griffiths on double bass and mandolin, Keith Harrison-Broninski on keys, and Billy Weir on drums.
