Norman Baker is best known as the former Lib-Dem Home Office Minister who was partial to a conspiracy theory or three, but he’s fronted a band, and they’re really good.
In 2013, The Reform Club released their debut album, Aways Tomorrow to great critical acclaim. On January 15th, 2016, comes the follow up, Never Yesterday. It contains 12 original tracks that will frankly pop your socks.
The Reform Club’s influences are many and varied, from the unique Englishness of Stackridge and Stanshall, to melodic pop and rock of the Kinks and Small Faces.
Norman Baker recently told the Independent: “It’s a traditional, very English musical observation in the vein of The Beatles, to The Kinks, to Madness, to Blur… The album is not particularly political – this is a music album, albeit a couple of tracks have political overtones.”
The standout political track is ‘Give War a Chance’, which Norman co-wrote with his bandmate Mike Phipps. It opens with the lines: “I am an envoy of peace/But I’ve got war on my mind…
