Ruthin Town entertain Denbigh Town on Tuesday in an eagerly anticipated derby match. It hasn’t been a particularly good season for either side so far and Ruthin will be hoping to use the match as a launch pad for the rest of the season.
This is considered by many to be the main derby match in the Vale of Clwyd but despite the size of the two clubs derby matches have been relatively few. Since the Huws Gray Alliance was established in 1990 this is only the ninth season the clubs have been in tier two at the same time.
Ruthin’s secretary Bryn Jones said, “These are big matches and we are anticipating a large crowd. It was a close match at Denbigh earlier in the season and I’m sure it will be close again on Tuesday. It has become a tradition that derby matches are held during the Christmas period and I’d like to thank the league for facilitating this again this year.”
The game will kick off at 2.00pm. Fans are requested to park their cars in the public car park on Park Road, next door to the Texaco garage, as there is limited space available at the ground. Prices are £4 for adults £1 for pensioners and children are allowed into the ground for free.
Chairman Paddy Carney said, “We are a community club with local players and we want to encourage the people of Ruthin to come and support us. This is the second tier of Welsh Football and it is a very inexpensive way to watch what I’m sure will be a very exciting football match – everyone is welcome
