"Life is a dance. Sometimes we lead, sometimes we follow. Don't worry about what we don't know, what's important is we learn new steps as we go."
Join us for our December dance and potluck, with an extra hour of dancing! Note the special times: the lessons will be from 7:00-8:00, and the social dance 8:00 to midnight.
It is going to be a busy night. We are hosting a potluck so please bring your favourite finger food to share.
In addition, we will be hosting a Shoe Swap. Bring your gently used dance shoes. Swap-give-sell-trade? A shoe swap table will be provided. You decide what they are worth.
And, finally, please bring a pair of new or used, clean, no holes, socks. One of our members (Sheila Adams) will personally deliver & distribute these to the homeless living in tents in Oppenheimer Park and at Sugar Mountain tent city near the Rogers Sugar Bldg. (Also welcome: underwear, bedding & warm clothing.) WHY SOCKS? Socks and underwear are among the most needed items for the homeless, yet among the least-often donated. Many places give out food, but just try to imagine wearing the same wet, filthy, holey pair of socks week after week. Bring a few pairs! THANKS!

Our intermediate workshop will be the "Battle of the Instructors" featuring Ian Kirkconnell, Amy Shibasaki, and Henry Hwi. Each instructor will take turns refining, embellishing, and otherwise building on the other instructors' teaching.
Ian is a long-time Vancouver instructor who teaches ballroom, Latin and swing. Ian is known for great energy and a unique interactive teaching style. He constantly strives to improve his dance and bring to his students all the joy of dance he has known. You can see Ian competing, teaching, judging or being the master of ceremonies at the dance conventions throughout the west. Ian is a long-time member, and past President, of the BC Swing Dance Club.
Amy began West Coast Swing in 2008 when she met her husband Michael met at a west coast swing dance and they decided to become practice partners to improve their dancing. She wants to share her love of the dance with you – by offering you a friendly, relaxed learning environment to get you comfortable enough to have lots of fun on the dance floor. She currently competes several times a year at Intermediate level and continuously looks to upgrade and hone her teaching and dance skills.
Henry began salsa dancing in his early twenties at World Dance. After a couple of years with salsa and dabbling in competitive Latin ballroom, Henry fell in love with West Coast Swing. Henry has been dancing West Coast swing for the last five years, he’s been to over a dozen conventions and numerous competition accolades. Henry is an attentive and patient dance instructor with years of teaching experience. He is committed to spreading the joy of dance and growing the West Coast Swing community in Vancouver.
Michael Shibasaki will be teaching the free beginnger class. Michael has been dancing for about 9 years, and teaching WCS for about 7. He usually teaches with his wife, Amy, but tonight he'll be "flying solo" while Amy is teaching with Ian and Henry in the main ballroom.
