David Smullen aka Boogiemann is an Irish Dj from Dublin living in Berlin for the past 3 years.As the name suggests his music inspiration comes from Disco,Funk Soul,and of course Boogie.
Boogiemann began Djing in Paris where he lived for 4 years from 2002 till 2006,Djing with Dj/Producer Maryam Bash every Tuesday at partys organised by Comet Records Chef Manu Boubli.
“This was the Perfect start for me,Surrounded by great people who had a huge knowledge of music and always the desire to play,From then on I was hooked”.
In 2006 and after 4 great years in Paris,David sensed it was time to leave Paris,First living and playing in Gothenburg Sweden then back to his native Ireland to concentrate on playing some more in his home town.Hooking up with Alex Woo who runs weekly Partys in South William and Hogan’s .This gave him the oportunity to showcase all he had learnt abroad.”I really loved playing in Dublin,I think it was a little different for the people as I had learnt my trade in Paris so I was sort of coming from a slightly different angle,and playing with the people that I played with in Paris it really put me in good sted”.
After 1 year in Ireland,Boogiemann then made the big move to Berlin.Where he quickly got aquinted with Tacheles.Playing every Thursday and once a month on Weekends.This continued for almost 2 years,until it was sold on in March 2011.After that many of the Tacheles crew including David moved to Maria Ostbhanhof where they made parties every Monday from Miday till Tuesday Miday.
David is now the Booker and resident Dj in Bohnen Gold.And well established in the undeground scene playing in clubs like,Ritter Butzke,Golden Gate,Maria Ostbhanhof,Loftus Hall.
David now spends most of his time working at Bohnen Gold where he has hosted the likes of Toomy Disco,Slow Motion records Italy,Sp read magazine,Melbourne Deepcast,Space Ranger,Trujillo and coming very soon Luminodisco.
